PHONifier is both an open source script and a web service. PHONifier is aimed at automatically stripping webpages of unneccesary code. It can be used to surf the web on your mobile device or to make RSS feeds accessible on your mobile phone or PDA.
PHONifier was initially developed to optimize webpages automatically. You set PHONifier.com as your mobile homepage and surf the web through the PHONifier proxy. Alternatively, you could install the PHONifier script on your server to have it automatically update your webpages when a mobile device tries to access them.
First of all, web developers need to code their webpages in a way they can easily be visited by all devices. In a perfect world all webpages would be written this way. Sadly though, only a fraction of developers apparently understands why this is important.

Ever tried to surf the web on your mobile device? Ever noticed how webdevelopers hardly seem to care you´re visiting their webpages on a mobile device? PHONifier tries to take away some of these problems. We believe our service can act as an enabler for mobile surfing until webdevelopers start taking mobile surfers seriously.
PHONifier works like a proxy, it picks up the page you´re surfing to (or the pages on your server if you´ve installed it) and changes the code on the fly. An advanced search and replace if you will.
Start using it yourself. Report any problems you might encounter so we can use this information to improve PHONifier. You can also help us out with code if you´d like. Tell others about PHONifier. Implement a PHONifier application on your own website.
PHONifier is an open source project and is free of charge. The basic web-based version of PHONifier is ad-supported. We strive to only open our platform to advertisers who offer value to you, our mobile phone, PDA and set-top box users. Please give our advertisers a closer look if you like PHONifier!
PHONifier is developed by Paragin and ShotCode, yet since it´s an open source project we hope that more and more people will help make PHONifier a great optimization service. The lead developer for PHONifier is Peter de Blieck of Paragin.
ShotCode.com is the first service to use PHONifier. ShotCodes are great circular barcodes for mobile camera phones. By installing the small ShotCode reader (17KB), the camera of your phone becomes a ShotCode scanner. When you scan a ShotCode you´re automatically connected to the corresponding URL, download, movie or whatever you want it to point to. ShotCode removes the need to type and makes web pages and services accessible on impulse.
